Transit of Venus - June 5, 2012

OMSI Star Party - Transit of Venus Viewing
3:00pm - 9:00pm at OMSI (East Parking Area)
Looks like no viewing from the parking lot, so all the viewing will be in the Auditorium.

In the OMSI Auditorium there will be a live broadcast of the transit from on the big screen from NASA, San Francisco’s Exploratorium and other viewing sites around the world.

For More Information on Viewing Safely

.

WARNING: THE SUN IS NOT SAFE TO VIEW WITHOUT ADEQUATE EYE PROTECTION
Sunglasses DO NOT provide adequate eye protection
Viewing the Sun indirectly, by projecting its image onto a screen, is far safer.

You can make a simple projector with a pinhole in a sheet of cardboard and projecting the image on a sheet of white paper

or using a cardboard box to project the sun.

Welder's Glass - Welding glass is used to protect welders from eye damage. Welder's glass is numbered from 1 to 14 with 14 being the darkest. It is only number 14 glass that is dark enough for solar viewing! And NO STACKING! A pair of number 7's or a 10 and a 4 together DO NOT have the same protection as a single piece of number 14.
